On the night of September 6, 2019 in Stanthorpe, Queensland saw one of the most devastating fires in our region. Homes and crops were lost, peoples livlihoods turned upside down. This painting is a depiction of the devastation, but also a nod to rural resilience.
The fire tore through the outskirts of our small town, but the work from firefighters and volunteers alike, ensured that the majority of homes and properties were saved.
I drive past the exact scene from which this painting was inspired most days and am grateful that it wasn't as extreme as it could have been due to the resilience of the human spirit to help people in need.
